The ROOTS Framework: How We Keep Your Property Safe

Every tree job is different. Different trees, different properties, different risks, different conditions. But the process we follow should never vary. Consistency in how we approach work is what keeps people safe and delivers reliable results.

That is why we developed the ROOTS Reliability Framework. It is our five-step process that guides every single job we do — from a basic prune to a complex multi-tree removal. It ensures nothing gets missed, nothing gets rushed, and every job is done to the standard you deserve.

Here is how it works.

R — Recognise Hazards

Every job starts with a thorough hazard assessment. Before we pick up a single tool, Daymian inspects the site and identifies every risk — not just the obvious ones.

This includes:

- The tree itself: Is it dead, dying, or structurally compromised? Are there cracks, cavities, fungi, or deadwood? What is its lean? What is the root condition?
- The surroundings: What is near the tree? Houses, fences, pools, cars, powerlines, gardens, footpaths. What could be damaged if something went wrong?
- Access and terrain: How do we get equipment in? Is the ground slope stable? Are there underground services?
- Weather conditions: Is it too windy to work safely? Is rain expected that could make conditions dangerous?

We do not just identify the hazards — we document them and factor every one into the plan. This is where most operators cut corners. We do not.

O — Organise a Plan

Once we know exactly what we are dealing with, we develop a tailored work plan. No two jobs get the same plan because no two jobs are the same.

The plan covers:

- Method of work: How will we approach this tree? Sectional dismantling with rigging? Straight fell? Crane-assisted removal? The method is chosen based on the hazards identified in step one.
- Equipment required: What machinery, rigging gear, and tools do we need? Is the chipper positioned correctly? Do we need traffic management?
- Crew roles: Everyone on site knows their job before work starts. The climber, the groundsmen, the chipper operator — everyone is briefed.
- Contingencies: What if conditions change? What is plan B if the wind picks up, the tree behaves unexpectedly, or we find hidden decay?

You receive a clear, written explanation of what we plan to do and why. No jargon, no surprises.

O — Owner Engagement

This is what sets Certified Tree Service apart from most operators. Our owner, Daymian McGovern, is on site for every job. He is not sitting in an office sending crews out and hoping for the best. He is there — assessing, planning, supervising, and often climbing himself.

Owner engagement means:

- Accountability: The person responsible for the business is responsible for the work. If something is not right, it gets fixed immediately — not after a complaint gets passed up the chain.
- Quality control: Daymian's reputation is on the line with every job. He will not let substandard work leave the site.
- Direct communication: You deal with the owner, not a call centre or a sales rep. Your questions get answered by the person doing the work.
- Experience where it matters: With over 13 years in arboriculture, Daymian brings real expertise to the front line. He reads trees, assesses risk, and makes sound decisions under pressure.

T — Trusted Teamwork

The plan only works if the team executing it is skilled, experienced, and committed to safety. Our crew is selected for their qualifications, their attitude, and their willingness to follow the plan — not cut corners.

On every job:

- Every crew member holds relevant certifications (chainsaw operation, first aid, traffic management as required)
- Every person wears correct PPE — no exceptions
- Toolbox talks and safety briefings happen before work starts
- Communication is constant throughout the job — between the climber and the ground crew, between the team and the client
- If anyone identifies a new hazard during the work, we stop, reassess, and adjust the plan

Trusted teamwork is not just a slogan. It is the discipline of doing the work properly, every time, even when no one is watching.

S — Secure Results

The job is not done when the tree is down. It is done when you are satisfied with the result and your property is safe and clean.

Secure results means:

- Complete clean-up: All branches are chipped, all debris is removed, the site is raked clean. We leave your property tidier than we found it.
- Client walkthrough: We walk the site with you, show you what was done, and make sure you are happy with the result.
- Safety confirmation: We verify that no new hazards have been created and that the area is safe for you, your family, and your neighbours.
- Documentation: If you need it — for insurance, for council, for body corporate records — we provide photos and documentation of the completed work.

Why It Matters

The ROOTS Framework is not just a marketing exercise. It is how we have maintained zero serious incidents across hundreds of jobs. It is how we deliver consistent results regardless of the complexity. And it is how we earn the trust of homeowners, property managers, and repeat clients across the Central Coast, Newcastle, and Sydney.
